Working on national digital advertising for Verizon Wireless meant writing tons of banners ads and video content. Often, I helped create more robust interactive units that were truly interactive, for ad placement or within a microsite. With massive budgets and the ability to spread its buy across the digital media landscape, I was able to get tons of new ideas produced.

Mother’s Day

I wrote these three spots for Mother's Day sales period. After a universal opening, each video showcased Dad reminding the kids not to forget Mom’s special day. The viewer see each resolution and Mom’s gracious reaction. Pro tip: Never forget Mother’s Day.

The Holidays

A first in digital advertising, we used the ad network and its cookies to create a multi-site scavenger hunt. Conceptually, a “woodie” station wagon, on its way to Grandma’s, hits a speed bump and spills gifts across a snowy landscape. The user would decipher a hint to visit a different site.

Once at a new site, they were served the subsequent Verizon ad and could search for next hidden gift. Three sites later, when they collected all the missing gifts, they could open them. The big revelation? The unwrapped gifts were actually deals on sweet, sweet Verizon phones.

Back to School

The Back to School sales period featured a similar interactive experience, only this time in the form of a game. Think Tetris but with imagery. Every game ended with a gratuitous phone offer. You’re welcome.
